Collateral Damage

by on Jan.08, 2013, under Health, Miscellaneous

When Janice Dunlop saw the accident unfold up ahead on the A27 near Arundel, West Sussex, UK, she acted fast to avoid damage by stopping and reversing away from the destruction. A27 ARUNDEL LORRY ROLLOVER She and her friend watched as a roll-off dumpster truck lost control on a curve, rolled-on to its side, and slid down a hill. Two cars were crushed by the truck before it finally stopped right in front of her silver Vauxhall Vectra. dunlop2 The victims included the 46 year old driver of a Toyota RAV4 and his 73 year old mother. Mrs Dunlop, from Littlehampton, said, "They looked very distressed and were clearly in shock, they were clutching at their chests. I felt awful for them." So she allowed them to sit in her car while they waited for rescue. Mrs. Dunlop was taken to a fire engine to keep warm. dunlop4 Meanwhile, the rescued pair began experiencing neck pains, and the paramedics and firemen decided to cut the roof off Mrs. Dunlop's car since the other vehicles were already too damaged to avail themselves of any further demolition. dunlop3 "I was in shock, especially after surviving the crash untouched, and I was dreading telling my husband Steve. I couldn’t watch. I know it is just a lump of metal, but I relied on that car and I loved it. It was the only car we have in the household and we can’t afford to replace it." The Dunlops are waiting to see if the loss  of their car will be covered  by insurance.

Blowing Town

by on Nov.04, 2012, under Consumer

Relocating is often a moving experience, and regardless of whether you hire professionals or do it yourself, there is bound to be collateral damage.

Pack your possessions carefully! Things can happen beyond the control of the moving company.

A man in Phoenix wanted to save himself some money and decided to make the move himself. He rented a truck and trailer for his BMW 3 Series to be hauled behind the truck.

Not planning to return, the man didn't leave much behind. After loading all of his possessions, he took off for a home in another state. But things came to an abrupt halt a few blocks away in the area of 51st Avenue and Loop 101.

Phoenix police Sergeant Steve Martos said that the propane tank from the man's grill caused the explosion in the back of the truck.

The BMW also sustained some damage from the impromptu barbecue.

Nobody was seriously injured.

U-Haul is refusing to return the deposit claiming that "additional cleaning is needed."

Monster Truck Pull

by on Sep.15, 2012, under Health, Kids, Parenting, Recreation, Toys

When Easton Jarrett came home from his first day at school in first grade, he had his first baby tooth ready to come out. If he could read at first grade level and has kept up with this blog, he would have seen a variety of methods to take out a tooth. But Easton had an idea of his own. He thought of his radio controlled mini monster truck. He had his parents tie dental floss around the loose tooth and then around the back of the monster truck. Spoiler alert: Skip down to the video if you want to see it without knowing how it ends. Easton accelerates the RC truck, and it rolls away, pulling his tooth behind. "It's kind of bleeding." said Easton as he recovered his tooth. We recommend he keep his batteries charged. There are still a few laps to go.

Road Kill

by on Aug.27, 2012, under Culture, Health

China is experiencing unprecedented economic growth, and over the past twenty years, traffic in China has exploded. As the middle class expands, people buy cars and commute to work. The new industry has resulted in a huge increase in truck traffic, and trucks are the main cause of road congestion and accidents.

When a scooter pulled out in front of him, the driver of this truck swerved to avoid him, but the heavily laden truck overturned.

The driver, Yang Fu, told police in the Yuhuan, Zhejiang province that he was forced to brake hard when the scooter emerged in front of him, turning over and spilling his load of hot tar.

The victim's scooter was crushed under the overturned truck.

The victim was buried under 10 tons of hot tar.

"The bitumen poured out all over the man on the bike. You could smell it burning. There were some terrible screams and then silence," said witness Liu Jin. Firefighters needed special heat proof boots as they searched for the biker's body in the tar, which was being kept at a temperature of 100 degrees Celsius in the truck

"He was beyond saving. He would have been dead within the first minute," said an emergency services spokesman.

Deliveries in Rear

by on Jun.07, 2011, under Health, Miscellaneous

The human rectum is like a magnet, attracting all kinds of objects, and fostering stories and legends. There are only so many things you can sit on accidentally before you need a more interesting explanation. You put down your coke, took off your pants, and sat down, forgetting that the bottle was there. It's a good thing you lubed it up before you put it down. You lost your keys and needed some light to see if they were up there. Yes, there they are! Along with your cellphone. And your best friend's fraternity ring. Of course sometimes there's a legitimate medical reason. Or a genuine accident.

And that's what happened to Steven McCormack, a truck driver from New Zealand.

Steven McCormack was standing on his truck's foot plate Saturday when he slipped and fell, breaking a compressed air hose off an air reservoir that powered the truck's brakes.

The nozzle pierced his left buttock and air rushed into his body at 100 pounds per square inch.

His boss, Robbie Petersen, witnessed the accident. "His body started to literally blow up and before we knew it, his face went up like a balloon."

As the air pumped and McCormack began to scream, co-workers struggled to pull him off of the nozzle. They managed to stop the air supply and roll him on his side.

Paramedics arrived an hour later and tried to insert a needle for a morphine drip. The pressure from the air inside McCormack pushed the needle out. "It was like putting a needle into a piece of rock," said Petersen. They were also unable to give him air through a tube in his nostrils. Doctors said the air filled his abdomen and chest, as well as the space around his heart, lungs, and even behind his eyelids. The air separated his fat from his muscles and compressed his heart. After being rushed to the hospital, a team of doctors put a hose through his ribs to get air to his lungs. Though doctors were able to get fluid out of him, the air had to come out the natural way, resulting in an impressive display of flatulence. It took McCormack three days to go back to his normal size and he was released from the hospital on Wednesday to continue releasing gas at home.
