The Zhejiang Redemption

by on May.28, 2013, under Crime, Culture, Family, Health, Kids, Parenting

There are lots of reasons that a drain might clog. Grease and hair can build up over time. drain_clog Sometimes foreign objects make their way into a pipe.

You never know what a kid might flush down. drain_toys The plumbing was particularly noisy in one building in Jinhua in the coastal province of Zhejiang when residents reported the sound of a baby crying. They heard the cries from a waste pipe on the fourth floor. drain_baby1 Firemen sawed away at the four-inch-wide pipe just below a ceiling in which the boy was trapped. drain_baby2 The rescuers then rushed the section of pipe to a hospital. drain_baby3 A drain snake wasn't available, so firemen and surgeons used pliers and saws to get the baby out of the pipe. drain_baby4 The boy’s arms were pinned to his side and when the pipe was pried away, he let out a long wail at the Pujiang County People’s Hospital in Jinhua, eastern China. He was still attached to the placenta. drain_baby5 drain_baby6 The baby was covered with sewage, and had a skull fracture. The mother could face a charge of attempted murder. A police officer said she had hidden her pregnancy and claimed  the baby fell into the toilet after she unexpectedly gave birth. "The woman was on the scene during the entire rescue process, and admitted she was the mother when we asked her." He said police were still investigating whether she had any malicious intentions before deciding on charges. drain_baby7 drain_baby8 The baby, referred to as "Baby 59" for the incubator he occupies, is in stable condition and expected to recover. toilet_kid3

What We Pretend To Be

by on Nov.04, 2012, under Culture, History, Kids, Recreation

People have really gotten serious about Halloween. From cheap costumes and flimsy plastic masks to elaborate fancy dress, there are a lot of options. And for the truly creative, it's a great way to indulge your kids' fantasies. Here are a few examples of great costumes for kids we previously showed, and another collection we questioned. Some of the costumes didn't reflect the best for kids, or reinforced stereotypical roles.
But kids and parents were more creative this year and we were impressed with the originality and execution.
Dressing up as food isn't new.
But this kid looks pretty saucy as spaghetti and meatballs.
If you're lazy you can go to the store and buy a scary costume.
But if you can keep your wits about you, you can head in another direction.
Sometimes even the best ideas won't fly.
The flames are convincing, but the empty soda bottles destroy the illusion.
This kid took it to a whole new level. And we're pretty sure nobody else will show up with one like it.

All I Want For Christmas

by on Dec.28, 2011, under Consumer, Environment, Family, Health, Kids, Parenting, Technology

Kids know just what they want for Christmas. You don't even have to ask. They'll let you know. Most of the time, it's a popular toy you can find at a local store. Sometimes they want something unusual. Kyle Krichbaum collects vacuum cleaners, and loves additions to his collection.

Dustin Kruse, a four year old from New Berlin, Wisconsin, wanted one thing more than anything else.

Dustin wanted a shiny new Kohler Persuade dual-flush toilet.

“Dustin first visited the Kohler Design Center when he was three,” said his mother Michele Kruse in a Kohler press release. She recalled Dustin checking out all the toilets on display and learning about bidets and dual-flush technology from the in-house designers. “He even took it upon himself to explain how to use a dual-flush toilet to fellow visitors,” Michele said. On the way home, Dustin said, “For Christmas, I’m asking Santa for a full-flush half-flush toilet.”

When Dustin was 3, When he was three, they took him to the Kohler Design Studio, a three story showroom of toilets and plumbing fixtures manufactured by the Wisconsin company.  "Out of anything this is what he loved. We were here three hours our first time. He was in heaven," Dustin's mom said.

The Kruses were struggling in this year's economy, and couldn't afford the $ 400 toilet. After a letter to Kohler, the company donated the toilet as a gift.

Dustin was so excited by the gift, he fell asleep in the box!

Dustin's fascination with bathrooms began when he was two and potty trained himself. "He first loved Porta Potties. He would see one on the side of the road or a race track. He needed to go in every single Porta Potty," Mrs Kruse said. "We thought maybe it was a phase... and no." Dustin loves toilets. He loves flushing them. He even understands how they work, his mom says.   That's why he wanted the dual flush toilet, which has a half flush for liquids and a full flush for solids. "Everybody should have a toilet like that because it conserves water," Dustin says.

Flipside of Kama Sutra

by on Sep.08, 2011, under Art, Culture, Education, Family, Health, Nature, Pornography, Recreation

The Kama Sutra is the world's oldest book on the pleasures of sex. More than a mere listing of contortionist sexual positions, the Kama Sutra provides a comprehensive manual of living a pleasant life. The basic tenet of the Kama Sutra is that in order for marriages to be happy, both man and woman should be well-versed in the arts of pleasure, both carnal and cerebral. Originally written in Sanskrit, it's been translated into many languages.

But man isn't just a sexual being. There are so many other aspects of our life that could be more pleasurable. Everyone poops. We spend the first couple years of our lives learning to poop, and then spend many hours the rest of our lives actually doing it. Shouldn't we be able to enjoy it?
