Waist Deep In The Big Muddy

by on Jul.08, 2014, under Environment, Family, Health, Kids, Nature, Parenting, Recreation

It's been more than 10 years since five year old Lelaina Hall died after being trapped in the mud at Berrow Beach, Somerset in 2002. mudflat_danger People, especially kids, ignore the posted warnings to play in the mud. mudflat_rescue Emergency crews had already been called out several times to rescue people stuck in the mud. But like the others, this young boy ran out to enjoy the mudflats exposed during low tide at Weston-super-Mare in Somerset to the consternation of his mother. mudboy3 All of the stuck children were located and rescued that day, although one seven year old boy had to be checked out by an ambulance crew. Roger Fry, who lives in the area, was attending Weston Air Day when he snapped these photos. mudboy2 He said, "I was on the beach watching the planes when I heard this great ruckus. I looked round and saw this mother screaming at a kid." "I told you not to go down there, you're filthy" and so on. "Everyone stopped and looked around before the mother stormed off with some other children towards the car park. The muddy kid just followed on a little later." mudboy1 The unidentified young boy was berated by his mother, and was seen bursting into tears as the furious woman wagged her finger in front of his face. "Everyone stopped and looked around before the mother stormed off with some other children towards the car park. The muddy kid just followed on a little later." reported Fry.

"I want to play cricket on the green,

Ride my bike across the street,

Cut myself and see my blood,

I want to come home all covered in mud."

The Cat in the Hood

by on Aug.18, 2013, under Animals, Health, Nature

The BMW-1 series is a small high performance car with an engine that purrs. So you might not notice if there's a cat under the hood. princess04 Princess rode around for hundreds of miles before she was discovered. princess05 Julie Tansley of Nottingham, England noticed her cat missing on May 7. Although she searched she saw no sign of her cat in the following two weeks. princess07 She had been driving the car to search for the cat, and regular daily activities. She even had the car washed. When the red temperature light came on, she opened the hood to check the engine. princess03 She was surprised to find Princess, wedged tightly in the engine compartment. Most likely in an attempt to drink the coolant and kill herself, the cat had clawed through a coolant hose and caused the trouble that ultimately resulted in her rescue. princess01 It took about 45 minutes to dismantle enough of the car to get her out, assisted by her partner Trevor Lee, and a few friends. princess02 Although hungry and thirsty, and soaked with antifreeze, she was otherwise unhurt by the ordeal. princess08 Julie Tansley, the owner, commented, "She's alright now though, but she is really really thin as she hasn't eaten for two weeks, but she's happily eating and walking around as if nothing happened. Now we've got quite an expensive repair coming up, I don't know how but it seems she was so desperate to get out the clawed right through the hose. It has cost over £300 to replace that hose, so it's an expensive way to travel having your cat with you. It's just unbelievable, we took her all over Nottingham, I mean we've driven to and from school, work, even through the jet wash with her in there."

It’s How They Roll

by on Aug.18, 2013, under Animals, Nature

Adalwine, a ginger tomcat from Berlin, Germany, was looking for a place to nap. He squeezed himself into the alloy wheel of a BMW Estate but when Adelwine awoke he was still tired. adelwine01 "When the cat didn't return home at bedtime his owner spent hours looking for him until he heard a loud miaowing coming from a parked car," said police officer Ulrich Koenig. "We had to get fire fighters in with special cutting equipment to open up the wheel." This isn't the first time a cat has found himself in a tight spot. Casper was no more fortunate. casper01 Casper is from Suffolk, UK. He tried to bite and scratch his rescuers. casper03 Despite his reluctance, he was freed after about an hour. casper04   If your cat insists on rolling that way, you can always harness that energy safely with the Cat Wheel Toy-Go-Round. black_wheel_cat_white

This curious little fox cub was just exploring the overflow drainage pipe when he ran into a narrow segment and got stuck. He probably wouldn't have survived, but Rover, an 11 year old collie/labrador cross was on a walk with his owner Steven Miller on the grounds of the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh when he realized that something was wrong. He refused to let Mr. Miller leave. Discovering the animal in distress, they alerted the Scottish SPCA. Animal rescue officer Steph Grant freed the male cub. He was taken to the SPCA's National Wildlife Rescue Centre in Clackmannanshire, where he was named Jacob. Centre manager Colin Seddon said: "Jacob was very lucky to have been discovered as he would have perished otherwise. He’s coming on really well and is now eating solid food. We’ve introduced him to three other fox cubs in our care and we are hopeful that they will all be released at a carefully selected site when they are at the right age and stage to be able to fend for themselves in the wild."

by on Jul.11, 2010, under Animals, Crime

An unfortunate dog was stuck in a hole through a wall when she tried to escape after being abandoned. Nikita, a one-year old rottweiler mix from Luton, Beds, UK, had been left in the apartment for two days without food or water.  Montgomery Wandera, 24, her owner, left her to go off with some friends. Nikita tried to escape through a dryer vent.  She succeeded in knocking the vent cover off, but then became stuck.  Neighbors notified the RSPCA, which sent inspectors to rescue her from the 6" pipe.

De-tails not visible

Her former owner admitted neglect and has been banned from owning pets for five years.  Meanwhile, Nikita, who was renamed Nicki, is happy in her new home.

The Grate Escape

by on Jun.27, 2010, under Animals, Nature

In Plainfield,CN., three curious red fox pups got their heads stuck in a storm drain grate, while their distressed mother howled for them from a nearby den. A boy riding his bicycle had seen two of the pups stuck in the grate last Thursday. The third one popped up Friday, Stone said. Just how they got snagged, no one knows, but a dead mouse was lying near the grate on Friday and the pups might have been after that, she said. Or the mother might have placed the mouse there to coax her babies out. A Day At The Park

by on May.31, 2010, under Miscellaneous

Xing, a 41 year old Hong Kong man, visited LanTian Park late at night.  Apparently the surroundings and glamorous bench proved irresistable, because Xing decided to have sex with the bench. The steel bench is perforated and has a lot of holes.  Xing selected a particularly attractive one for his attention, but once aroused, he became stuck and was unable to remove his penis from the hole.  He was forced to call police, who found him still in an amorous embrace with the bench.  Doctors who arrived at the scene tried to reduce his blood pressure by draining some blood, but they ultimately had to cut away the entire bench and take it, with Xian still engaged, to the hospital. Maybe he thought the park was for "members only".
