A couple of people hiking in Phoenix, Arizona heard whimpering sounds coming from the area of a nearby cholla cactus.

They discovered an eight week old Yorkshire Terrier mix.

After alerting the Arizona Humane Society they started removing the cactus spines.

“By the time we arrived on scene, the good Samaritans had actually removed him from the cactus and also removed about a five gallon bucket worth of spines,” Said Arizona Humane Society spokesperson Bretta Nelson.

He was taken to the AHS Second Chance Hospital where vets spent several hours removing the rest of the barbed spines.

The friendly puppy didn’t appear overly distressed by his situation, and was reportedly wagging his tail as the staff attended to him.

Cactus Jack, as he was named, is not expected to suffer any permanent injuries and is getting medication to prevent infection. He will be available for adoption soon.

It still doesn’t look as scary as Dog vs. Porcupine.

Cute as they are, skunks don’t appeal to everyone.

Nine year old Jonathan Felgate hoped to get a hamster for his birthday.

He got a skunk, which he named Gizmo.

Jonathan’s father Mark, 39, of Blyth in Northumberland, said: “Gizmo is as affectionate, intelligent and playful as any dog or cat. As long as you handle them regularly from when they are young skunks won’t bite you. Gizmo will happily sit on your lap, is quite affectionate and will follow you everywhere.”

They also protect you from foxes.

If you’ve never seen a Pepe LePew cartoon, you might make the same mistake.

This young fox might have seen this creature as a tasty treat, or maybe he was just curious.

This pair was photographed in Lavaltrie, Quebec, Canada by amateur photographer Jocelyn Lafond.

The skunk doesn’t appear to be particularly worried.

When the fox gets up close, he learns how the skunk discourages intimate relationships.

The economies of countries worldwide are still in recession. A lot of people are unable to find jobs that allow them to support themselves.

Some people are forced to take menial jobs despite education, training, and experience. Others are entrepreneurs who leverage their talents and resources to something they enjoy.

Zhang Wuyi, 37, from Hanyang in central China’s Hubei province was laid off from his job at a textile factory.

Instead of looking for another factory job, he turned a disused building into a workshop and started building small submarines.

Wuyi’s subs can seat two people, travel for 10 hours at about 1 miles per hour, and dive to depths of 90 feet. With his ten employees, he can build one in about a month. His first customer, Cong Zhijiea was a sea cucumber farmer from Dalian, who uses the submarine in his business.

“I was brave enough to be the first user of his submersible, but that machine helped me to catch up to 50 kilograms of sea cucumbers in 40 minutes,” said Zhijie.
